Beauty without Cruelty - Animal Rights Film Festival

10 - 12 October 2008 - District Six Museum, Cape Town

Beauty without Cruelty is proud to announce that we will be holding our second annual Animal Rights Film Festival in Cape Town from Friday 10th October to Sunday 12th of October at the District Six Museum.

The line up includes the high profile documentary, "Meat the Truth", which draws attention to one of the most important causes of climate change, namely intensive livestock production The documentary demonstrates that livestock farming generates more greenhouse gas emissions worldwide than all cars, lorries, trains, boats and planes added together.

Further documentaries that will be shown are "Your Mommy Kills Animals", an in-depth look at the animal rights movement and the FBI's recent declaration calling them the number one domestic terrorist threat to the United States, as well as 'Peaceable Kingdom', a film of stark contrasts which juxtaposes the brutality farm animals endure on their way to becoming food, with deeply touching stories of individual farm animals given a new lease on life at a rural sanctuary in upstate New York, founded by husband and wife Gene and Lorri Bauston.

We are also very proud to be able to welcome our guest speaker, award-winning writer, noted speaker, public intellectual, and seasoned activist, Dr. Steven Best who engages the issues of the day such as animal rights, ecological crisis, biotechnology, liberation politics, terrorism, mass media, globalization, and capitalist domination. Dr. Best has published 10 books, over 100 articles and reviews, spoken in over a dozen countries, interviewed with media throughout the world, appeared in numerous documentaries and was voted by VegNews as one of the nations "25 Most Fascinating Vegetarians”. He has come under fire for his uncompromising advocacy of "total liberation" (humans, animals, and the earth) and has been banned from the UK for the power of his thoughts. From the US to Norway, from Sweden to France, from Germany to South Africa, Best shows what philosophy means in a world in crisis.
