Many restaurants in South Africa continue to serve Foie Gras, with full knowledge of the cruelty it inflicts. Please write to these restaurants and ask them to remove Foie Gras from their menu's.

Desmond Tutu Quote

If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality.

- Desmond Tutu

Brigitte Bardot Quote

One should not eat foie gras. It is a cruel, inhumane, tradition and, as all traditions synonymous with suffering, it should be ended

- Brigitte Bardot

How much Cruelty can you Swallow

New Website Launched
No Foie Gras SA has a brand new website. For the latest news, campaign updatesand to pledge your support, please visit:
Imagine you've just eaten an enormous lunch. So enormous that you can hardly move. In fact, you are finding it difficult to breathe. You feel bloated, swollen and in agony. "Why did I do it?, you ask yourself. "Never again!" Now imagine you didn't have the choice. What if, like the geese used to produce foie gras, you were forced to repeat the process time and time again? What if, for the next 16 days, at regular - all too short - intervals, somebody pushed a rigid metal tube down your throat and filled your stomach with food. The pain, discomfort and utter misery you would feel can only be imagined.

Foie Gras is not about pitying the millions of birds that suffer and die, many from suffocation and lacerations of the throat, before slaughter. It is about having our own dignity, recognizing the dignity, sentience and the right to live their own lives of other beings and also being conscious of the terrible human cost that is part of the price paid when making, buying or eating Foie Gras.

For example, one bird is forced to consume between 160 and 210 kgs of corn mush in only three weeks. This defines the worst excesses of human greed and self indulgence of the few for fleeting taste, regardless who may suffer.

40 million birds suffer and die annually on Foie Gras farms. Can you imagine how many starving humans could be fed with more than 840 million kgs of corn each year?

Foie Gras is available at many local delicatessens and restaurants in South Africa, Foie Gras is singled out world wide due to it defining the worst excesses of human greed and self indulgence of the few for fleeting taste, regardless of the cruel and painful process involved.

To deal casually or cavalierly with the life of an animal is antithetical to Jewish values.

'PRINCE CHARLES bans foie gras from royal menus.'
Hello Magazine; 11 March 2008(page 94):

"Prince Charles has banned foie gras - the delicacy that is produced by force-feeding ducks or geese to enlarge their livers - from the menus of all of his royal homes. The heir to the throne will also review the royal warrant given to a shop, House of Cheese in Tetbury near his Highgrove home, after the Prince discovered that it sells the delicacy, which is described by opponents as 'torture in a tin'. Production of foie gras is banned in the UK."

The thinking man must oppose all cruel customs no matter how deeply rooted in tradition and surrounded by a halo. When we have a choice, we must avoid bringing torment and injury into the life of another, even the lowliest creature; to do so is to renounce our manhood and shoulder a guilt which nothing justifies.

- Albert Schweitzer
